ATTORNEY PROFILE

JOHN KING   - Attorney

"I've always liked the title of Joe Willie Namath's book, 'I can't wait for tomorrow … 'cause I get better looking every day,' 'cause I can't wait for tomorrow. Every new day brings a client with a unique problem that allows me to help people, either through the trial of a lawsuit, or through the drafting of a document or the negotiation of a settlement that gets them through a rough period during their lives."

John King was born and raised in the East End of Houston. Not only were his folks native Texans, but his Mom's family settled in the Houston-Humble area back before the Civil War. He graduated from Milby High School (2004 State 5A Basketball Champs); Rice University (2003 College World Series Champions) and the Law School at the University of Texas at Austin. "I started at Rice University because it was free and wound up loving that school with all my heart." He graduated from Rice on a Saturday, moved to Austin on Sunday, registered for law school on Monday and completed the 3-year curriculum and the bar exam in the next 2 years, graduating at the end of August and receiving his license on September 15. On the way, he was a Quiz Master, member of Phi Delta Phi Legal Fraternity, was invited to write on Law Review, participated in the Hildebrand Moot Court Competition, and graduated with Honors and Order of the Coif. He’s been in a hurry ever since.

JOHN KING - Owner

King first worked for a large transactional law firm and then for a specialized personal injury trial lawyer. In 1971 he and his family discovered McAllen and the Rio Grande Valley, and have been there ever since. For the last 41 years he has maintained his own practice, and has focused on Civil Trial Law, Family Law and Real Estate. He’s been a member of the College of the State Bar of Texas for many years, and is a Fellow of that Organization. He was one of the original group of attorneys first Board Certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization during the initial year of 1975, and he is presently Board Certified in Civil Trial Law, Family Law, Farm & Ranch Real Estate Law, Commercial Real Estate Law, and Residential Real Estate Law. King has taught Real Estate Law at the College level and lectured at various seminars in aspects of Family Law.

"It has been my pleasure and honor to argue cases before the Supreme Court of Texas and the Courts of Civil Appeals in Beaumont, Waco, Houston and Corpus Christi. I have tried cases before District and County Courts from tiny Coldspring, Texas, to Houston and El Paso and from Brownsville to San Antonio."

King says that it is almost embarrassing to accept money for something as enjoyable as practicing law. "The Law has provided for both my family and myself for many years with support not only financially but also emotionally and socially." During his career, he has had two jury trials that lasted more than two months of consecutive trial days and a third that took almost that many days over an eight month period. “Trying a case before a jury has to be the most fun a person can have …and we get paid for it, too.”

King is licensed by the Supreme Court of Texas, the United States Court for the Southern District of Texas, the United States 5th Circuit Court of Appeals, the United States Tax Court, and the Supreme Court of the United States. He is a member of the Hidalgo County Bar Association, the Texas State Bar, the Bar Association of the Fifth Federal Circuit, and the Texas Academy of Family Law Specialists. He is also CEO of the Sierra Group of Title Companies, Independent Title Agents in 6 Counties in Texas and 1 in New Mexico.

"I don't just "practice" law: I eat it, sleep it and breathe it. I would sooner 'court' a jury or help a client than anything else in the world."
